The greatroom, featuring floor to ceiling windows with sweeping views to Mt. Washington, is the center of Bear Mountain Lodge. Many guests enjoy taking in the view while playing a game of checkers or watching the Cog Railway ascend Mt. Washington through the spotting scope. |

Filled with comfortable furniture and a wood soapstone stove, the Greatroom is a favorite place of guests to relax upon returning from dinner. |

The expansive deck off the greatroom is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee and watch the sunrise over Mt. Washington. If you're up early enough you can try to catch a glimpse of our resident wildlife - moose, deer, wild turkey and the occasional black bear cross through the back yard.

Winter at the Lodge is spectacular. With onsite snowmobile and snowshoe trails, there's plenty to do for snow lovers like us. We're also just 15 minutes from great skiing at Bretton Woods and Cannon Mtn. To view more photos of the Lodge and our guests, go to the Photo Gallery.

In order to preserve our natural setting and not disturb the animal habitats on the property, we've left most of our 26 acres undeveloped. In the evenings when returning from dinner, some guests have been lucky enough to see a black bear or young bull moose like the ones shown here wandering through the property. |

Our Yellow Labs, Rocket and Remi, are very friendly and love to play ball or fetch sticks in the backyard. They are never allowed in the guest rooms, but they'd be happy to visit with you on the deck or in the backyard if you like. (Photo February 2010) |

In efforts to be as environmentally friendly as possible, we've instituted the following "green initiatives". We've also just placed recycling baskets in each guest room to make it even easier for our guests to recycle.
- The Lodge was built using the highest quality energy saving products available
- The Lodge is heated by an efficient, energy saving radiant heat system
- We recycle all paper, card board, glass, plastic and cans
- We've initiated a kitchen composting program
- We use natural cleaning products where possible
- We've installed energy efficient compact fluorescent lighting
- In order to conserve natural resources and keep as much detergent out of our environment, we have a towel reuse program and change sheets only every fourth day unless requested.
We've partnered with Clean the World, a non-profit that works to not only reduce waste created by the hospitality industry but to prevent the millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses every year. Clean the World has put over 6 million soap bars and 200,000 pounds of shampoo and
conditioner back into human use, simultaneously eliminating nearly 340 tons of waste. We're very proud to show our support and donate to this worthy cause.
